A haunted eatery and telekinetic little girl

Final full East Coast day of the trip, and it was a blast!  It didnt start off that way though.  At first we had to get to the bus station in Boston and catch a double-decker Megabus that brought us 4 ½ hours to New York City.  We wanted to take the kids to a Broadway show while we here so we were thinking we might be able to get tickets to one of the older shows that had been playing for a while.  I accumulate some travel credit with the company that I use for the DC trip with my students so I called my contact there, and she was able to get us a hotel room in the middle of Manhattan as well as tickets to Matilda, the hottest new show on Broadway.  Thank you, Michelle!

Our hotel was walking distance from where the bus dropped us off, and we were able to check in quickly enough that we had time for dinner at a very appropriate restaurant for our family.  Seven years ago on the RV trip, we brought the kids to the Jeckyll and Hyde Club which is a Halloween themed restaurant complete with actors, animatronics and secret passages.  Alex was the only one who was old enough to remember it very well so we wanted to come again, but with the show at 7, we didnt know if wed have time.  The location of Jeckyll and Hydes Club has moved since we went on the last trip, and it is now literally across the street from the theater where Matilda is playing.

We had a lot of corny fun going through the secret entrance, listening to a mummy talk to us, watching a mad scientist raise the Frankenstein monster, etc.  The food was honestly really good as well.  Then we walked across the street to the show.

Matilda was awesome, and we couldnt have picked a better show for the whole family to see together.  The effects were great and the actors were brilliant.  The whole show was well cast – Matilda and the dad were amazing, and the guy who plays Miss Trunchbull was hilarious and made the show.  When this show travels around the country, I recommend seeing it if you can.  Our whole family loved it!

After the show, we actually went back over to the Jeckyll and Hyde Club because we didnt have quite enough time to see everything before the play, and then we walked around Time Square a little.  It was packed and not really our scene, but we did have fun going through the enormous Toy R Us.  All in all, a fun way to end our East Coast visit!
